Happy Digging!
I'm Matthew, a historical archaeology PhD candidate at Syracuse University. I focus on the early modern North Atlantic, specially fort-communities and the employment of remote-sensing in archaeology, which you can see more of in under "Research & Publications." My work engages with the intersection of anthropological archaeology, public history, and geospatial science - detailed in the "About" tab. Engagement with local communities and the broader public is at the center of my passion for archaeology, with our field's unique ability to uncover & share oft-ignored stories. The "Public Engagement" tab highlights non-academic outreach related to my work. For those living in the southern Champlain Valley, please see the "Community Arch. Program" tab for further information on how to volunteer at public excavations in partnership with the Crown Point State Historic Site!
I look forward to answering any questions or discuss future collaborations via my email (matthew.d.oleary@gmail.com)!
